The Cheshire County fairgrounds at Swanzey, NH was a central, pivotal venue - particularly in the 1950's. The Monadnock Stock Car Racing Association ran important races competing in by dozens of future major stars such as Rene Charland, Roy Forysthe, Sonny Rabideau, Art Rousseau, Ed Patnode, and many more. Mike Cody, one of the racing Cody brothers won often and wide - ranging venues.

The car Mike
probably would have had in 1960. Not positive.
It is
regrettable that I have never found a photo [that I know of] of Art Tolman.
Rabideau, in particular rose to a Hall fo Fame career and Rousseau was just as
good in an open wheel racer as he was in a stock car. I don't know exactly what
the "John Cody" 33 was. The yellow 33 was known to be owned by Henry Merrow of
Londonderry, VT and was driven by both
mike and Art Cody.

At my local Fairmont Speedway, I would get to see that car 33 driven by Art; Rabideau with Frank Smith's 311; and Roger Dunton's 657. Mike Cody appeared briefly but not with the he was doing so well in back there in 1960. Also, Ted Brown raced with us in Vermont, but probably not with the car he would have driven in 1960.
Courtesy of Ken Robertson This is almost certainly the car Sonny Rabideau would have in 1960. I think it was the family car at the time. |
