ST. LAWRENCE VALLEY SPEEDWAY
Canton, NY

The race track in Canton is one of the more important venues, in terms of the effect it had on the growth of the sport. Not only did it see some of the most prominent early drivers from the western New York area, but - when the pivotal Airborne Park Speedway opened in 1954, its first set of races were dominated by drivers from the Canton area and from Vermont. Despite the fact that the track died out by the end of the 1950's, it had seen the start of the careers of such luminaries as Sterling "Buck" Holliday, NASCAR National Sportsman Champion Bill Wimble, driving star and future Watertown promoters, the Ziegler brothers, and many more.
