Norm is the youngest son of Eli
Vadnais, a distant relative of mine and an important figure in the earlier
history of racing in the Rutland County, Vermont region. As was true with me,
Norm was studiously interested in racing - primarily at Fair Haven's Fairmont
Speedway. He wrote down a lot of thoughts and remembers even more about those
days in the early 1960's.
Eli Vadnais was in on the ground floor of stock car
racing in Vermont. As a member of Henry LaVictorie's 4 Crazy Frenchmen team, Eli
crewed at Pico Raceway, Fairmont Park Motor Speedway, and probably a few more
tracks. Later, as proprietor of Eli's Auto Body, Eli Vadnais painted most of the
area's premier stock cars for many years.
