MARTY HARTY
They Made One and Threw Away the Mold

I had heard about Marty Harty long before i got to meet him at one of Ron Bouchard's vintage racing reunions. Cho Lee, having seen his cars perform in the early days of Thunder Road, was always in awe of Harty. From the photos I had seen of the Harty cars at Thunder Road, it appeared he was kind of an eccentric, using car bodies no one else did. Since then, I have seen his cars which ran at places like Hudson and Brookline. He was an amazing technical wizard for his time, purely and simply. Rather than my writing a whole spiel for this page, I offer this wonderful article down by Ken Paulsen and placed on the http://www.176racing.com/gatorinvt.html website.

The very strange - looking Harty
28 and 9/10, involved in a
Thunder Road mixup in 1960.
The driver was probably Roger
Lancey.

Another view of the
sedan - with either Roger
or Ernie Gahan at the
controls. There was a coupe of the same number - I can't find the shot yet.

The number 28 and 9/10 was
the price of gas at Ralph
Atkins' gas station in Troy,
NH. Here, Atkins, the sponsor,
was supposed to try driving at Fairmont in1963, but I never saw the car there.

This is Freddy Borden and it

Marty and Doug Farrow's

to be a restored Harty car,
as well.
