GROVETONA
GROVETON, NH'S RIVERSIDE SPEEDWAY

I have only been to the track in Groveton, New Hampshire on one occasion,. and that was back when Mike Beattie was promoting it. I thought the track was fine, the personnel were great, and the competition was entertaining. Back in those days, the drivers included Bob Ailes, about the only guy I knew over there. I think Floyd Bennett and George Stone were other stars of that era. I understand it is a lot different today. I would imagine Freddie Mills was among the first stars at the track. I need a lot of help getting early Groveton participants and - for that matter - any participants up to 1987.
Established in 1964, the track hastened the already - certain demise of Vermont's Northeastern Speedway, in Lower Waterford. Riversides' connection to Vermont is unmistakable - all the way from its close proximity to Northeastern Speedway in Lower Waterford - through the Can-Am Speedway era - to today, when several drivers split time between Thunder Road and Riverside.

Groveton's Freddie Mills would obviously be one of it first stars.

Some of Groveton's first stars would include Johnny Gammell,
Mutt Dexter, and Harold
Hanaford.

St. Johnsbury's Dwayne
Remick would have run
Groveton regularly.

certainly an early

Freddie Mills, shown here

Mike Beattie, as track owner, accepts keys to the latest pace car. Love the hair. Something tells me that computer cursor wasn't there in the '70's.

this old Chevelle at

With a name like Bennett,
the driver shown above is
likely to be a Groveton man.
