GHOSTS OF RACE CARS PAST
Remnants of Cars That Can Still Be Found

This page can be used by those guys who search madly through woods, junkyards, behind barns, and on back roads for restorable former stock cars - especially from the coupe/sedan era. I hope folks will send in any shots for which they need help either identifying the car or even trying to buy or sell it. I am making this page dedicated to Eugene Bushey [who, by the way is younger than me] because it was with his help that I found the remnants of the Rowe T-800 car in 2007.

We are Lookin' for More Photos !

The Gaylord Rowe T-800, with its unique swiss cheese body to lose weight, was driven to an Airborne Speedway track title in the 1950's. Its most steady driver was Dick Goodelle, of Mooers Forks, NY. It was also driven by National Co-Champion Bill Wimble, of Lisbon.

THE HOFFER X9

The Argyle Racing Team of Bob Hoffer, Sr. began producing cars numbered X9 as early as the 1950's, for tracks like Ashland Park in Warrensburg, NY. This one may not been built by Bob, Sr., as it appeared at Fairmont Speedway after Bob's untimely death in a car accident in Canada. It sits in Argyle after having been in a garage fire.

MY MYSTERIOUS CHEVY COUPE

The late Harry Rathburn and I planned to take this old veteran of the Otter Creek Speedway
and restore it into a replica of one of the OTS cars. I had already fancied doing the blue
# 2 + 1 car that ran there and at Thunder Road around 1961. Somehow, between my divorce
and Harry's changing addresses, the car ended up getting crushed at Pickett's. Check out the
now - gone state scale building on US Rte 7.

has since replaced this

VIC LOVE'S OLD FORD COUPE

|
Gary Miller Photo
I clearly recall people talking about Vic Love's JV2 car, but I cannot remember any time I saw this
particular car. he had a #5 I saw at Fairmont around 1964. Gary Miller believes it is a 1946 Ford.
He said: "There is some kind of advertisement on the rear pertaining to Goodrich Tires.  Jon Luleck
saw the JV2 car and told me it was Vic Love's old car.". Gary is a master welder, and I would imagine he
will have to marry the few usable panels here to another 1946 Ford to have a replica.

The car is still
