GENE BERGIN
Another of Those Hired Guns in the Northeast

Arrangement by Ladabouche
Gene was one of the drivers to be honored with All Star League membership.

Coming from where I did, in Vermont, I did not chance to ever actually be at atrack where Gene Bergin performed. He did drive in Vermont, at Catamount Stadium [before I was up  there] and at Devil's Bowl [when I had moved out of that area]; but I seldom frequented the same tracks as would Gene. Bergin was not known as one of the stars [like say, Pete Corey] who often prepared and owned his own equipment. More in the vein of a Ken Shoemaker or a Don Wayman, he usually drove for one owner or another - probably for more than one at a time. One thing is certain - he was damned good !
